CARSTAIRS - Although many would lament the return of winter, for Carstairs Winter Carnival the weather was perfect.

The carnival ran from Feb. 28 to March 4 and featured different events around town during the week, including an open house at the Half Century Club, Carstairs Legion and the gymnastics club. Other events included snowman games and craft and storytime at the library Thursday and a sock hop dance at the high school Friday.

Saturday saw the action move to the community hall for a pancake breakfast hosted by the Lions as well as a fire truck display and horse-drawn wagon rides. There was public skating at the arena as well as hot chocolate.

The main event Saturday afternoon featured outdoor carnival games and relays including toboggan races, snowshoe relays, log sawing, tug-of-war and much more.
