A total of 56 teams took to the ice at the Olds Curling Club last week for the Olds Farmers and Farmerettes Bonspiel for five days of friendly competition, Feb. 14 to 18.
This year, there were 40 men's teams and 16 women's teams taking part in the bonspiel, about the same number as last year, according to organizers. There were five draws each day this year, using the ice roughly 12 hours per day.
“It's a social week for people,” said Devin Weseen, chair of the organizing committee.
Weseen said the business support of the 'spiel was solid again this year, with some of the same sponsors since the first event was held in 1980.
Action was due to wrap up on Saturday, after the Albertan went to press. For more on the event, see the Feb. 28 edition of the Albertan.
