Four local therapists from Olds were part of the medical staff during the Canada Winter Games.

They are certified athletic therapists Rebecca Henderson, Paige Shannon and Marilyne Doucet, along with massage therapist Marcie Rae Thompson.

The Games took place Feb. 15 to March 3 in Red Deer.

Henderson served as a medical venue lead for the Riverbend Golf Course and Canyon Ski Resort.

She said that involved many meetings leading up to the event to plan the medical component of those two venues.

During the Games she was also on site as an athletic therapist for the athletes.

Shannon, Doucet and Thompson had various shifts throughout the Games at venues and at the main clinic for the athletes.

Henderson spoke on behalf of the group.

She said it was "pretty cool" to be involved.

"We got to meet lots of different athletes and different medical professionals from all over Canada, basically," she said. "We just got to meet lots of them and work alongside them and work with all the top athletes."

She said fortunately, they didn't have to deal with any serious injuries.

"The worst would probably have been a concussion, knee injuries, stuff like that," she said.

This is the third time Henderson has participated in high-level Games. She utilized her skills at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver as well as two Canada Summer Games.

She said she's looking forward to the next opportunity to help out.
