BOWDEN — The town plans to enable minor hockey teams to take to the ice a week earlier than usual.
Chief administrative officer Greg Skotheim made that announcement during Bowden town council's July 22 meeting.
Arena operator ll Gary Pion said as a result, Bowden minor hockey teams will likely begin their season on Oct. 1. Normally, he said, minor hockey has begun somewhere between Oct. 7 and Oct. 10 in any given year.
Skotheim told council the decision is the result of a discussion between town staff and minor hockey representatives.
"(It's) just to better facilitate teams," he told the Albertan. "They want to get going a little quicker so they can be a little more competitive in a league (and get) a little more ice time prior to the season starting. That's kind of the main thing."
Coun. Sandy Gamble liked that idea."That would be good," she said.
