OLDS — The Olds College men's basketball program has strengthened its 2021 edition by recruiting Nick McKee.
The 6'6" forward joins the Broncos after playing for Steve Konchalski at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S.
Konchalski is the winningest coach in Canadian University Sport history. Konchalski is retiring this year after a 46-year career that included coaching three championship squads.
In his third year at St FX, McKee shot 50 per cent from the field and 80 per cent from the charity stripe.
Prior his to arrival at St.FX, McKee played his high school basketball at Bill Crothers Secondary School in Markham, Ont. where he was a teammate of current Broncos men's basketball student-athlete Austin Nzige-Nyambok.
While there, McKee averaged 20 points per game, along with 12 rebounds and eight assists per game.
"What Nick brings to the table for us is experience,” Broncos men’s basketball head coach Harrison Corolis said in a news release.
“After playing alongside all-Canadian talent, he (Nick) will be able to bring a championship mentality and work ethic to the court on a daily basis and will serve as a great mentor to our younger guys as he shows them the ropes.
"In addition to all these positive character traits, Nick is going to be a force for us on the low block as he helps to shore up our front line on both the offensive and defensive ends," he added.
