The Olds College women's volleyball team swept their rivals from Lethbridge College on Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, winning by scores of 25-20, 25-21, 25-13 and 25-14, 25-22, 25-22, respectively.
The key turning point in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference match on Jan. 30 was the second set, when the Broncos were down 6-0, and continued to be behind until tying it 20-20 and eventually taking the set. Dakota Wilson earned player-of-the-match honours for the Broncos, with seven kills and five blocks.
The team now has an 11-7 match record on the season.
Chris Wandler, the women's team's head coach, said following the match on Jan. 30 that some substitutions early in the second set seemed to push the team to play a better game.
ìWe had a hard time transitioning from the first to the second, trying to get into the rhythm of things. Those subs did a really good job to get us back into it and that really was our match right there. We started to shut down that little left side angle that they were trying to hit and once we shut that down they really didn't have much to go at,î he said.
With only one match with Briercrest College and Seminary remaining before playoffs, Wandler said the team wants to concentrate on executing the fundamentals on each point in order to get ready for the second season.
