Changes are in the wind for the Olds Lacrosse Association (OLA).

Sally Dolinski, who has served as the association's president for three years, is stepping down.

"It's time I allow another to step into the role of president," she wrote in an email to the Albertan. "If no one fills the role by June 13 then the vice-president will step in and serve in that capacity until a new president is voted in."

The association's vice-president is Gina Belcastro.

That's not the only change.

The OLA now has three new board members. They are: registrar Heather Schoonderbeek; Dawn Murray, who will look after marketing and media; and equipment manager Lindsay Kratchmer.

They obtained those roles during the OLA's annual general meeting (AGM), held May 16.

"OLA is happy to have these ladies join the Stingers team and look forward to working with them for the remainder of this season and into 2020," Dolinski wrote.

During the AGM, the OLA agreed to implement a logo protection policy.

Dolinski said so far, no one has been using the association's logo without its permission, "and we are thankful for that."

But she noted the possibility exists that that could happen.

"There are some teams within CALL (the Central Alberta Lacrosse League) that have had this happen and OLA wants to create a policy that will prevent this from happening," she wrote.

"OLA wants to ensure the correct use of colours and logos as well as outline the quality and style of garments that are to be worn by the players, coaches, parents and other members of OLA."

A decision was also made to omit the Respect In Sport policy because it is not a CALL regulation.

"It is a great program. However, OLA has both player and parent code-of-conduct policies in place based on the Canadian Lacrosse, Alberta Lacrosse and Central Alberta Lacrosse policies," Dolinski wrote.

"OLA already has policies in place that deal with player and parent situations where disrespect is shown," she added.

"All members know what is expected in how we represent our town, our club and ourselves on or off the floor and it clearly states that 'failure to observe the terms of this contract may result in disciplinary action being taken against the member in violation. Said disciplinary action may include but is not limited to: suspension or expulsion from OLA.'

"Thus far OLA has had great success in the acceptance and follow-through with these policies."

Unsettled

Plans call for the OLA awards night to be held June 23. The time and location for that event are still being worked out.
