OLDS — The Olds College rodeo program has recruited an athlete from B.C. who has starred not only in his home province but internationally as well.
The college announced last week that it had recruited Jaret Cooper of Armstrong B.C. The plan is for him to compete for the Olds College Broncos rodeo team in 2021-22.
In high school in Vernon, Cooper was named the 2018 Canadian junior roughstock champion in saddle bronc and the 2020 B.C. High School Rodeo Association saddle bronc champion.
During the 2019 Canadian High School finals, he finished third in calf roping and second in steer wrestling.
In both 2019 and 2020, Cooper was a qualifier for the National High School Rodeo Association (NHRSA) finals in saddle bronc, calf roping and steer wrestling.
He was named world champion in saddle bronc in the 15-18-year-old category during the 2019 World Junior Finals in Las Vegas.
Cooper finished in sixth place in saddle bronc during the 2020 World Junior Finals in Fort Worth, Texas.
He plans to enrol in Olds College’s farrier science certificate program.
