Local professional roper Todd Gallais was to compete today at the Team Roping At The Schmidt House event in Barrhead. In addition to taking the top honour of being Alberta's best roper this year, Gallais also hoped to help support STARS Air Ambulance.
Gallais is among the top 25 in Canada. A total of 18 of those 25 have qualified for this year's version of the Canadian Finals Rodeo later this year in Edmonton.
Gallais will be testing his roping skills in three different events in Barrhead — heading the steer, heeling the steer (the last component to the team roping event) and tying down a calf.
All admission charges were to go to STARS.
The winner of the event was to pocket $7,500.
