Cross-country skiers are not allowed on the Olds golf course, pro and manager Wade Bearchell says.
Bearchell says that's in order to preserve the course in general, but especially the greens.
"With their poles they can poke holes into the tarps," he says.
"They look for the little hills and you can see where the little hills are, they're the greens, right? And they don't know that, so they'll ski up to them.
"Or they'll ski up just to look at it. Now they're standing on the green, right?
"We're not owned by the municipality and we're a business and our first priority is the greens and the condition of the golf course," Bearchell says.
"There are places inside the municipality (to cross-country ski). The town sets tracks across town for cross- country skiers."
It's a controversial decision. Bearchell concedes some club members would like to see cross-country skiing allowed on the course.
"Some members are mad (laughs). Some members want it, but they would know. It's just that you can't just allow some people to come out, right?"
"If there are any issues, we just don't need them, so generally, that's it."
