Deer Meadow dominates basketball tournament

École Deer Meadow School (EDMS) hosted the Chinook's Edge Athletics Association's Middle School Basketball Tournament on the weekend and finished first or second in all four categories.

École Deer Meadow School (EDMS) hosted the Chinook's Edge Athletics Association's Middle School Basketball Tournament on the weekend and finished first or second in all four categories.

The girls teams won the A division and placed second in the B division while the boys finished second in their A and B divisions.

The tournament took place at Deer Meadow School and the Ralph Klein Centre. It featured 27 teams competing in all four divisions for a total of 40 games.

"The A girls final was particularly exciting with a last-second buzzer-beating jumper by Sana Mirza to capture the championship for Deer Meadow (27-25), a shot I am sure she will remember for quite some time," EDMS gym teacher Jeff Clattenburg said in an email to the Albertan.

"It gave an amazing opportunity for the students in our division to gain experience and compete against other schools across the division," Clattenburg wrote.
