DIDSBURY — The Didsbury High School JV boys' basketball team is heading to the South Central Zone Championships after coming from behind to knock off Acme 50-46 on the road on March 4.
Head coach Zech Johnson said the Dragons worked hard all game to get the victory.
"Acme made us work until the very end," said Johnson. "We were fortunate to have come out on the winning side after having to claw back from a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter."
The team captured the Chinook's Edge league championship, beating Bowden 86-54 at home on Feb. 25.
Johnson said the season went pretty well for the Dragons, although they've faced many challenges along the way.
"We've used the challenges as learning experiences to get us to where we are now," he said. "This has now given us the potential to win zones this year in Brooks. I'm really proud of how far the boys have come. It's been a great year of growth."
Johnson said the team's strengths are playing strong defence and being able to trust each other.
"Our intensity and work ethic creates havoc for the opposing team and allows us to have an easy transition offence," he said.
The 2A JV South Central Zone Championships are being held March 13-14 at St. Joseph's Collegiate School in Brooks.
Johnson thinks the Dragons have a good chance to do well at zones.
"It's been a good year for us so far," he said. "I believe if we go into the tournament taking it one game at a time we have a shot to win the whole thing."
