DIDSBURY - Essentials for our Community Didsbury is hosting a charity 10K run on Sept. 22.
The event will start with registration at 9 a.m. and the run will begin at 10 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Missionary Church in Didsbury, said Sheree Andrews, president of Essentials.
"We'll loop around the whole town and return to the church," said Andrews. "The whole idea of the run is called 'surrounded in support.' We're surrounding the town."
Andrews said that the run is open to all residents.
"Anybody can walk or run," she said. "Pledge sheets are available from me. It's a minimum $50 pledges or donation to run or walk in the event."
Andrews said that so far the organization and registration for the charity is going well.
"It looks like it's going to be a big success," she said. "The amount of pledges we've received is good. It looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. We're also going to have live entertainment at the Zion parking lot while people wait for the runners to come back."
Money raised from the charity will go to support Essentials for our Community Didsbury and its programs here in town, she said.
"We provide food and gas cards to locals experiencing financial hardships," she said. "We're an emergency and stabilization program. We offer mentoring, access to resources, and volunteer opportunities in the community."
Since the program began three years ago, they've given out 680 cards and helped over 140 households in Didsbury.
