OLDS — A former Olds Grizzlys goaltender has been named the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s (AJHL) Defensive Player of the Week.

Tristan Martin, 19, who now plays for the St. Albert Saints, received the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week award after posting a perfect 3-0 record during the week of Jan. 10-16.

During a game against the Bonnyville Pontiacs, the league’s third most high-powered offence, Martin allowed just one goal, stopping 30 of 31 shots.

He only gave up two goals against in wins over the Blackfalds Bulldogs and Fort McMurray Oil Barons.

The Grizzlys traded Martin early last month in in exchange for a player development fee. He had been with the club for two seasons.

Since that trade, Martin is 9-2-0, with wins in his last eight consecutive starts.

Martin is originally from St. Vincent, Alta., just northeast of Edmonton.
