Former Olds resident signs one-year American Hockey League deal

OLDS — Former Olds resident Jett Jones has signed a one-year deal with the Henderson Silver Knights, the top farm team of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights.  

The deal for the 2023-24 season was announced Monday, Oct. 16 by Tim Speltz, general manager of the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Henderson Silver Knights. 

Jones, 21, attended training camp with the Silver Knights and the Golden Knights and is currently attending training camp with the ECHL’s Savannah Ghost Pirates. 

Jones, a forward, is six-feet, three-inches tall, weighs about 216 pounds and shoots left. 

He appeared in three games with the Ghost Pirates at the end of the 2022-23 season, registering one assist.  

From 2018-23 Jones spent parts of five seasons with the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Lethbridge Hurricanes. He served as their captain during the past two seasons. 

In 2022-23, Jones scored 21 goals and obtained 50 points in 67 WHL games. 

In 222 career WHL games, Jones scored 54 goals, picked up 121 points and was tagged for 122 penalty minutes.  

He was named the Hurricanes’ most valuable Player in 2022-23. 

Also, during each of the past two seasons, Jones received the team’s Dennis Dirtwox Fan Favourite award. 

Jones was a part of Team Central during the 2017 Alberta Cup. 

During the 2017-18 season, he played for the Airdrie CRF Bison.
