The Olds High School Spartan girls soccer team should be a power to be reckoned with in the coming years, according to Karla Pohl, who coaches the team along with Taylor Grenier.
As the Albertan reported earlier, the team capped its season with a Tier II Zone Championship in High River during the Oct. 14 weekend, going undefeated throughout the tournament.
The team knows how to adapt to what's out there, she said.
"Our girls are very coachable and adaptable to situations," Pohl says. "If we come across a fast team, we modify our defence to shut them down and if we notice a gap we take advantage of it and switch up our offence.
"We took everyone (who) came out in the beginning of the year, whether they had played soccer before or not, we had no cuts. This encouraged all players from Grade 9-12 to come out and play, including a few exchange students."
The future looks bright, she said.
"We are only losing five Grade 12s next year. We have a very young team of strong players who play very well together. I anticipate that we will be a very strong team in a couple years," she said.
