DIDSBURY - About 25 riders participated in the Didsbury Ag Society's gymkhana event on Aug. 18 at the ag society grounds. The event was the second to last in the monthly series, which goes from May until September.
Organizer Shari Wareman said the Didsbury gymkhana is fairly low key with the focus on fun and development.
"It's open to anyone," said Wareman. "Our goal is to help riders improve themselves or their horses. So I think we're a little less competitive than some of the other gymkhanas that are around."
Performers from the ages of two up until 75 have competed. The events include: barrels, pole bending, stakes, flags and thread the needle.
"We have all ages - literally," she said. "We usually vary from 20-30 participants. It's lots of fun. We give out prizes at the end of each individual event for best in class."
The final gymkhana goes Sept. 15 with registration at 11 a.m. and events starting at noon.
"That's our wind-up," she said. "We'll have some prizes for people who have attended for all of the events. We'll have some prizes as well."
