A member of the Olds Golf Club Association came out on top at the Alberta Golf Men's Mid Handicap Championship held in Drumheller on August 7 and 8.
And the win for Scott Ouellette, 34, was extra special for two reasons.
For one, the victory at the championship came one week before the anniversary of a heart transplant he underwent five years ago.
“It's a wonderful feeling to wake up in the morning to know you're alive so you can compete in this sort of thing,” Scott said.
And secondly, the win was part of a family affair.
His father Wayne, who is also a member of the Olds Golf Club Association, tied for 13th place with a score of 174.
“It's not very often that I beat my father in golf,” Scott said, adding it was “special” for him to share his victory with his father.
Scott finished the two-day tournament in first place with a final score of 160.
“It's probably the biggest thing that I've ever done in golf,” he said, adding he took part in the tournament with 62 other competitors.
He was awarded a trophy, a gift certificate and a watch.
Scott has been a member with the association for eight years, joining the club when he lived in Calgary.
He then moved to Red Deer and now lives in Drumheller.
He added he plans to defend his title next year.
