The thrill of the circus is coming to the Innisfail Twin Arena as local figure skaters put the final touch on their year-end program Big Top on Ice.
The 49th annual ice show will take place Saturday, starting at 2 p.m. It will feature animals, accompanied by trapeze artists and clowns.
“It's the same kind of thing you would see at any circus except on ice,” organizer Bridgette Sinclair said. “It's always exciting to see these little kids skating.”
Of course the beasts and carnival folk will simply be Innisfail and area kids putting on a theatrical extravaganza. But that doesn't mean the youth or coaches are taking it any less seriously.
“There's a few handmade costumes for this show,” Sinclair said. “It's going to make you feel like you're really at the circus.”
For a family of four it will cost $15, just $3 for seniors and youth (ages four to 12) and free for kids three and younger. The event will include a raffle and a popcorn stand.
“We have a couple groups of people taking care of things for the ice show,” she said. “Now it's just about trying to get decorations and advertising done.”
As a mom herself, Sinclair can't wait for the day to come.
“Every year it's always a lot better,” she said. “There's a bunch of group programs.”
This is the first year her kids have gotten to be part of it, she added.
“It's a big party on ice,” she said. “Come watch your neighbours skate on ice.”
