Innisfail 590 Slo-Pitch wrapped up the season last weekend with a final tourney. Wolf Pack took first place for the A-side with the Cruisers taking second in a 16-7 game. Got the Runs took winning title for the B-side with Raiders following behind. Final score was 19-13.

“It went really well,” said league president Richard Rondeau. “I think fun was had by all and we all enjoyed the sun for sure,” he said remembering the season’s wet start.

“A lot of teams towards the end of the season were carrying rain-out games and we had to do some running around and do doubleheaders and play odd nights to try and get them all in,” said vice-president Brian Burkitt.

He was happy with how the season turned out, adding last year the league missed out on the year-end tourney because of too much rain.

Burkitt, also with the Wolf Pack, said it was a good season for the pack who also took league champion title for the season for the A-side.

“We won the B [title] a couple of years ago. We were in the A last year, and didn’t do so well; it was a period of adjustment going from B to the A. This year, we’ve got some younger players from the Innisfail Indians that play with us. …. so the speed factor is there and they don’t have the aches and pains the same as us,” he said, laughing.

Wolf Pack took the title for the season for the A-side with a record of 18 wins and six losses and 45 points. The Cripplers came in second for the league with a record of 17-7 for 34 points with the Cruisers grabbing onto third place with 15-9 record and 30 points. I’d Hit That took league title for the B-side with a record of 22 wins and one loss for 45 points, Got the Runs in second with a record of 21-3 and 42 points and Thunder with a record of 18-6 and 36 points. Next season the league plans to run a slo-pitch tourney in February, something the group started this season and found it was a success, explained Rondeau. A fun tourney will be offered in the spring and then the season will start up again. Currently 18 teams are in the league.
