Eight Innisfail figure skaters brought home medals last weekend after participating in Olds Edge of Excellence CanSkate program Dec. 10.

“It was exciting,” said eight-year-old Jalissa Aris, CanSkate level, who brought back silver from the weekend.

She’s been skating for the last two years and said competitions are tough, but fun.

“I love doing tricks,” she said of her favourite part of the sport.

Coach Brittany Williscroft said this was the first competition of the year for the PreSkate and CanSkate level skaters. Another competition is slated for February in Carstairs.

“They did really well, it was awesome,” said Williscroft, pleased with how the students performed.

Also bringing home awards were Branson Cibsy with a fourth-place award, Riley Bates in third and sister Katelyn Bates earning gold, Alicia Rogers in fourth, Akaysha and Athena Pare, and Reanna Phillips placing first and fourth in two separate events.

The school is hosting a talent show this Wednesday night at the arena from 5 to 6p.m.
