It's time for the big show by the Innisfail Skating Club.

The 52nd annual Ice Show is set for this Saturday, March 12 at 2 p.m. at the Innisfail Arena and will feature a variety of individual and group performances.

“This year the theme is colours,” said Linda Paré, president of the Innisfail Skating Club. “We're really showcasing what all of the kids do and what they've learned.”

Paré noted an example of a group routine by older skaters dressed in red who will perform a choreographed number of all the different dances they've learned over the year.

“It's going to be done to the song Lady In Red,” she said, noting that every song chosen for each group performance will be related to or include a colour.

The annual showcase will feature skaters of all ages and levels.

“It's dancing on ice, but it's also all the skills they've learned in the past few months,” said Paré, noting that some skaters perform a solo as part of the annual Ice Show.

“They can get out there and do their one and only number. It can include jumps, spins and different elements they learned this year,” she said. “Each skater has their own routine, you'll never see two like that.

“Their solo will include all the things they learned and did in competitions as well,” she added.

This year there will be a total of 65 skaters participating in the Ice Show, many of whom have been busy practising for the annual event, noted Paré, spending more than 10 weeks rehearsing.

“We start (preparing) the Monday or Tuesday right after Thanksgiving and we finish at the end of March,” she said, pointing out how far some skaters come during the skating season.

“We will have little skaters that will be out there in green shirts. When those kids got out there on the ice they couldn't stand up but now they're skating,” said Paré. “Our little skaters in blue shirts could just barely stand up, they're a little bit older, but now they're going around and around on the ice.”

Pare said she's received positive feedback about the event over the years and is encouraging the public to come out and show their support.

“It's all about the kids. Our heart and soul is for the kids,” said Pare.
