OLDS — It’s do or die for the Olds Grizzlys Monday night as they host Game 4 of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) play-in series versus the Grande Prairie Storm.
Game time is 7 p.m. at the Sportsplex. The winner goes into the AJHL playoffs.
The Grizzlys lost a 4-3 overtime heartbreaker Sunday night at home when Samuel Lyons of the Storm got the game-winner at 10:13 of overtime (OT).
The Storm now have a two-games-to-one lead in the best-of-five series.
After getting behind 1-0 in the first period of Sunday’s game, the Grizzlys stormed back with two goals by Ryder Many Grey Horses at 3:01 and 6:52 of the second period, propelling them to a 2-1 lead before Grande Prairie tied it up.
The Storm took a 3-2 lead at 6:14 of the third period, but Grizzly forward Gaige Giblin also scored in that frame at 8:06, forcing the OT.
The power play was the difference-maker as the Storm went three for four with the man advantage. The Grizzlys were one for two.
Aidan Comeau went the distance in net, stopping 30 of 34 shots fired his way. The Grizzlys shot 33 at Storm goaltender Nicholas Jones.
On Friday night, the Grizzlys thrilled their fans by winning the second game of the series 3-2 in Grande Prairie.
Mitchell Patrick opened the scoring, getting the lone goal of the first period at 7:17.
Grande Prairie tied it up at 6:00 of the second period. However, the Grizzlys took the lead again when Cade Moxham scored at 13:28 of that middle frame.
The Storm knotted the score yet again at 13:25 of the third period, but Connor Seeley of the Grizzlys got the game-winner at 14:02 of that frame.
Comeau faced a barrage of Storm shots, stopping 41 of 43. The Grizzlys only fired 18 at Jones.
Both teams were zero for three on the power play.
