OLDS — An athlete coached by Olds throwing coach Rachel Andres dominated the podium during the provincials June 2-3 in Edmonton, winning all three senior girls’ events.

Dayley Reimer started off by throwing the discus. Her toss of 32.52 metres (m), beat the nearest competition by two metres.

The following day Reimer won the shot put event with a toss of 11.18 m.

She then went on to win in javelin, hurling the spear 39.29 m.

“She was one of only two athletes to take home three gold medals over the course of the meet," Andres wrote in an email.

Although Reimer trains with Andres, she goes to Prairie Christian Academy in Three Hills.

Ashley Hoppins of École Olds High School (ÉOHS) made it to the senior girls shot put final on Saturday and placed seventh with a throw of 8.78 m.

“She had a fantastic showing against some very stiff competition,” Andres wrote.

Liam Good of Hugh Sutherland High School also competed in provincials.

Andres said Good "unexpectedly was able to throw shot put in addition to discus after the second-place athlete dropped out.”

He hurled the shot put 10.60 m and the discus 25.19 m, finishing in 11th place in both senior boys’ events.

Initially, ÉOHS athlete Sharlese Weigum was also slated to compete in provincials but had to drop out because she had commitments in other sports that same weekend.
