The Olds Mavericks lacrosse team is holding a special tribute to teammate Graysen Cameron, a member of the Humboldt Broncos who was injured April 6 when their team bus collided with a semi-trailer.
The ceremony will be held at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 27 at the Sportsplex, just before the Mavericks' home opener vs. the Saskatoon Swat.
"We would like to fill the arena for this special evening," says Gary Gaudette, co-manager of the Mavericks.
"We're going to have a video of Graysen," he says. "We're going to have a tribute for Humboldt and Graysen and all the players."
Also during the tribute, younger children will be out on the playing surface carrying green light sticks.
Gaudette says special activities will also be held during intermissions.
For example, people from the stands will have a chance to come down onto the playing surface to play "bubble soccer" in which people are contained in huge balls that can be kicked around.
"Bubble soccer is going to be neat," he says."It's never been done here before."
Also, he says "little tykes" will play lacrosse during intermission.
"All kinds of stuff" will be given away during the game, he adds.
Admission is by donation.
