The annual Sundre Curling Club men’s league bonspiel was nearly maxed out with 14 teams comprised of 56 curlers, coming to town to play, said an organizer.

“That’s good,” said Roland Weir, adding the club can accommodate only 16 teams.

The event, which was held Nov. 30 to Dec. 2, brought out teams and participants from Calgary, Edmonton, Camrose, Torrington, Sylvan Lake, Rocky Mountain House as well as Cremona, said Weir, who with Travis Phillips worked to make arrangements.

“Pretty well the whole surrounding area,” he said.

There were four events in all, with the winners as follows: A event — the Brad Bouchard team from Rocky Mountain House; B event — Roland Weir team from Sundre and Camrose; C event — Rick Fobes team from Torrington; D event — Derek Ralph team from Sundre.

Everybody seemed to enjoy the event, Weir said, adding there was some great curling as well as some good competition.

The organizer extended his appreciation to everyone who came out to support the bonspiel, which also helps to raise funds for the curling club.
