Golfers practise their putting and approaches amid threatening skies on Day 2 of the Mid Masters qualifying tournament, held June 20-22 at the Olds Golf Club.

OLDS – The competition was just too much for local golfers during the 2023 Alberta Men’s Mid Masters Championship, held June 21-22 at the Olds Golf Club.

According to Alberta Golf’s overall leaderboard from the tournament, Bob Weseen finished the highest among Olds Golf Club members with a two-round total of 155 (76 and 79), leaving him tied for 41st place.

Fellow Olds Golf Club members Brett Allan (81) and Mark Schultz (86) did not make the cut.

Jamie Welder of the Country Hills Golf Club in Calgary won the tournament by two strokes over Ken Griffith of the Red Deer Golf and Country Club with a blistering five-under round of 67 on Day 2 for a two-round total of 139.

The course was hit with lots of rain, certainly on Day 1.

On its website, Alberta Golf praised Olds Golf Club pro/manager Randy Brown and superintendent Jason Clouston for “a fantastic week and keeping the golf course in championship condition under tough weather conditions.”
