For the Cyclones peewee football team, it has been the dream season, so far. They ended the regular season with the No. 1 offence, No. 1 defence, and ranked No. 1 overall in the league.

They're hoping that dream can continue one more week as they will be playing for the league championship this Saturday against the Strathmore Spartans, last year's Tier IV provincial champions.

This past Saturday, in front of the large local crowd, the Cyclones played the Stettler Panthers in the league semifinals and blanked the Panthers 48-0. The Cyclones dominated on both offence and defence from the opening kickoff to the final whistle. The Cyclones’ defence came out firing, stopping every attempt and managed to pick up several fumble recoveries and even a pass interception ran back for touchdown by Jeremy Klessens.

"Our defence was fired up today," stated head coach Wally Genz. "They push each other to higher standards and make sure to have fun at the same time."

The Panthers had a difficult time stopping the Cyclones’ offence as the Cyclones scored four touchdowns in the first half and three in the second thanks to Jeremy Klessens, Thomas Layden, Elek Heimer, and Cole Martin, who ran in a 45-yard touchdown.

"We have a very intelligent bunch of guys on offence," stated offensive coordinator James Thompson. "If the defence stacked in the middle, we'd go wide. If they went wide, we'd go up the middle. They blitz, we throw. We have a lot of weapons when the offence does their jobs as well as they do."

"Keep the horns honking by the practice field and the words of encouragement coming," said an excited Genz. "We hear you and it's making a difference. I'd like to see those stands full this Saturday."

The Cyclones play at home this Saturday for the Tier III championship. Game time is tentatively scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
