After holding the 2011 organizational meeting on February 3, the Innisfail Minor Soccer Association is not any closer to meeting its need for volunteers.
The association is still looking for a president, age group coordinators, and coaches.
Last year there were close to 28 teams, and just fewer than 280 players in the Innisfail Minor Soccer Association and organizers are now looking for some fresh faces to step up into volunteer positions.
“People are busy and they don’t realize that we need help, things are getting done so they just don’t step up,” said Trina Westman, the treasurer and registration coordinator for the association.
The job of an age group coordinator would be to attend organizational meetings, help secure coaches for the teams in their age group, and be around the fields to assist coaches if needed.
Anyone that has a child in the soccer program can hold a volunteer or board member position and the association has in the past had community members volunteer as well.
Westman said that the current and some of the outgoing board members would be there to support any newcomers stepping into board positions but that they could no longer hold several positions each.
Although it is always hard to fill the volunteer positions they usually have at least all of the board member positions filled by this time of year, said Westman.
“If we don’t get the volunteers then there is a good chance that we won’t be able to run the program and it will fold.”
The current board members made the decision at the organizational meeting to go ahead with registration and hope that it will generate more volunteers. By March 10, the board will have made a decision whether the program will be running or not based on the number of volunteers.
