The Olds College mixed curling team will advance to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference at Lakeland College in Vermilion after posting a 4-2 record at the winter regional bonspiel held from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 at NAIT.
Skip Evan Swanson, third Michelle Lyckman, second Jared Rajotte and lead Shauna Bokenfohr finished the regular season with a record of 7-3.
Meanwhile, the men's team finished the bonspiel with a 2-3 record and a 4-6 overall record for the season.
The women's foursome fared less well on the weekend, finishing with a 0-5 record and a 2-8 record for the season.
The men's and women's rinks won't be travelling to Vermilion.
The bonspiel featured strong rinks from the Edmonton-based schools, but all the Broncos teams showed improvement from the start of the season, said Barb Dixon, the Broncos' curling coach.
ìI think (the bonspiel) went basically as predicted,î she said. ìThe city teams are very strong.î
Dixon said she saw a definite improvement in each of the Broncos curlers individually and as teams they also gelled well over the two bonspiels thus far.
ìNext year, I expect the men's team to finish very strongly,î she said, adding that three of the four members on both the men's and women's rinks will return next season.
The ACAC championships will be held from February 21 to 23.
