Need to eliminate turnovers, Bantam football coach says

The Bantam Bulldogs take on the Badgers in Strathmore this Saturday

OLDS — Preventing turnovers is a big focus for the Olds Bantam Bulldogs as they get ready to take on the Badgers in Strathmore this Saturday.

Bulldogs head coach Matt Sutherland says turnovers were one of many problems that led to a 28-22 defeat at the hands of the Bantam Broncos in Ponoka last Saturday.

With that loss, the Bulldogs' record is now 2-1.

Sutherland said another big factor was simply the huge size and aggressiveness of many of the Broncos.

“The offence fought hard the whole game and the players played their hearts out,” Sutherland wrote in an email.

“Despite some struggles here and there throughout the game, they were persistent in trying to execute the game plan.

“The defence did an amazing job as well. Ponoka is a big, hard-hitting team. We kept plugging away and made them work for everything they got,” he added.

Sutherland said Spartan special teams had “huge” impact on the game.

“We had a kick return for a touchdown and recovered two of our own kickoffs,” he wrote.

In case anyone wants to make the trek, kickoff time for this Saturday’s game against the Strathmore Badgers 1p.m.
