New trades ahead of this weekend's Olds Grizzlys training camp

OLDS — The Olds Grizzlys announced several trades on Aug. 14 as they get ready for the 2024-25 Alberta Junior Hockey League season.

In a news release, manager of business operations Kevin Watson said the goal of the moves is to obtain more experience.

Adam Pinsent, born in 2005, has been traded to the Notre-Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for future considerations.

Pinsent was on the Grizzlys’ roster for one season. During that time, he appeared in 14 games, scoring one goal.

Devun Olfert, also born in 2005, was traded to Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for future considerations.

Olfert also spent only one season with the Grizzlys. During that time, he played in 37 games, scoring two goals and three assists for a total of five points.  

Three players are coming into the Grizzlys Den as a result of trades.

Right wing/centre Will Robinson, 20, was acquired from the Hearst Lumberjacks of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League in exchange for future considerations.

Last season, Robinson scored five goals and picked up four assists in 24 games.

The Grizzlys also obtained forward Bailey Shortall from the Truro Bearcats of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League for futures.

The Nova Scotia-born 18-year-old picked up 23 points in 34 games with the West Kent Steamers last season.

In addition, the Grizzlys obtained goaltender Ashton Sadauskas from the Kam River Fighting Walleye of the Superior International Junior Hockey League, also for future considerations.

Sadauskas, 20, originally from Parksville, B.C. posted a 2.42 goals against average and a .909 save percentage with a record of 28-3-0 and four shutouts in 32 games last season.

The Grizzlys started training camp Friday, Aug. 23.

Their Black and Gold game is will be played Sunday Aug. 25, starting at 4:30 p.m.

The Grizzlys’ first pre-season home game will be played Wednesday, Aug. 28 against the expansion team Devon Xtreme.

The regular season begins Friday Sept. 13 when the Grizzlys host the Drumheller Dragons in the first game of a home-and-home series.
