OLDS — Nine members of the Olds Rapids speed swimming club have qualified for Summer Provincials, to be held July 25-28 in Edmonton.

They are: Brooke in the 50 metre (m) freestyle (free); Seleah  in the 50m backstroke; Thomas Sr 50m free; Claire in girls 11 & under long course 200m fly (butterfly);  Joshua in boys 14 short course 200m fly; Avery in girls 11 & under short course 400m IM (individual medley); Stella in girls 11 & under 400m IM; Jayce in boys 12 & under short course 400m IM; and Josh in boys 12 & under short course 400m IM.

John Bos, who does media relations for the club, is hopeful some of those young swimmers will turn in strong performances.

“We never know how everybody's going to do (but) kids will surprise you all the time and how they will perform,” he said during an interview with the Albertan.

“We've had great numbers and we've had some success.”

Bos noted that former Rapids swimmer Aiden Fox is also expected to swim in that meet.

“He's in university now,” Bos said. “He might actually break some records.

“He's amazing to watch. He's got some amazing times.”
