OHS Athletes of the Year named

Olds High School recently named its four Athletes of the Year. Sam Moffat received the award for Grade 9 boys. He played on the junior boys basketball team and on the boys soccer team this year.

Sam Moffat received the award for Grade 9 boys. He played on the junior boys basketball team and on the boys soccer team this year. Moffat is described as dedicated, eager to improve at both sports.

The Grade 9 girls winner, Jenna Kardos, played on both the junior girls basketball and volleyball teams. She also won a gold medal at zones playing doubles badminton.

Samantha Statchuk was the senior girls selection. She has been a starting setter for the volleyball team since Grade 10 and was co-captain this year. She also curled and played rugby. This year she also qualified for the provincial badminton championship.

From the senior boys, Baylen Unger has played football, volleyball, basketball and track and field. He most recently won a silver medal in the senior boys pole vault at the ASAA track and field provincials.

OHS athletic director Wanda Vandervelden wrote to the Albertan that these students were chosen for their contributions to school athletics, leadership and efforts to make their teammates better.
