After a two-year hiatus, the Olds Bulldogs are back.

The Olds Amateur Football Association's Doug Rieberger says they expect enough 13 to 15-year old players to fill the bantam team this season.

"We'll know once more we do our registration night, then we'll have a better idea of numbers," he says.

"That's going to benefit football in town as well, because the bantams are the ones that go on to play for our high school Spartans team."

The association's registration night takes place from 6-8 p.m. on June 21 at the Tim Hortons at 5508 46 St. They are also seeking officials and coaches.

Last season, there was no bantam team to sign up for so players were referred to Innisfail's football association as well as Airdrie's, Rieberger says.

The year before, Olds and Innisfail fielded a joint team.

Rieberger says the interest has always been there, just not the numbers, until now.

"I think what's happened is, because we've had increased enrollment on the peewee side, now the peewees we have are graduating and they're now filling out the bantam team."

Along with the Bulldogs, players aged 10 to 12 can play on the peewee Huskies.

Practice for both teams starts in mid-August and the season runs until the end of October. For more information, contact Doug Rieberger at [email protected] or 403-559-9191.
