Olds and area athletes to compete in Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games

2023 Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games will take place February 24-26 in Strathcona County

OLDS — Eleven members of the Olds & District Special Olympics (ODSO) team are slated to compete in the 2023 Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games. 

This year, those games will take place February 24-26 in Strathcona County. 

Ten five-pin bowlers and one alpine skier are expected to compete.  

The five-pin bowlers are Mike Dougan, Mark Mengersen, Darryl Siemens, Derek Hallet, Marie Davis, Brooke Carter, David Franz, Adriene Briand and Jessika Green. 

The alpine skier is Brian Taber. 

Coaches are Karen Mengersen, Ben Jensen, Brenda Norman and Murray Elliott.  

ODSO athletes will also be competing in four bowling tournaments and a swim meet this year. 

They’ll attend the Calgary five- and 10-pin tournament, Jan. 21 and Foothills 5-pin bowling on March 18. 

On April 15, ODSO will be competing in their home five-pin bowling tournament in Olds.  

Then on April 30, they’ll head up to Red Deer for a five-pin tournament there. 

The swim meet occurs Feb. 4 in Red Deer.
