OLDS — Forty golfers representing businesses from Olds and area braved the weather on Wednesday Aug. 21 at the Olds golf course for the second annual Olds and District Chamber of Commerce golf tournament.
The slight rain did not seem to deter the enthusiasm of the golfers who received an extra bolster, thanks to the warming beverages served up by chamber president Doug Rieberger.
The team headed up by Murray Elliott (Mountain View Publishing), Leon Durand (Rips Audio Video & Spas) Lyle Blatz (Sim’s Furniture & Bedding) and Corey Noel (Cab K Broadcasting) were declared winners of the nine-hole tournament.
The foursome bested the Hildebrand Motors team as a result of a countback. Both teams ended the tournament with a blazing five under par.
“Overall, the tournament went very well and we really appreciated the support we received from our sponsors and the assistance of the team at the Olds Golf Club,” tournament chair Mary Jane Harper said.
“Our business community really enjoys the nine-hole Texas scramble format. They don’t always have time to spend a full work day on the golf course and the format provides lots of time after the golf segment for networking opportunities.”
