OLDS — The Alberta Winter Games, to be held Feb. 16-18 in Grande Prairie, are looming ever closer, so Olds badminton athlete Ryder Persson is working on a strategy to succeed.
Persson and another Olds youth, Anastasia Plowman, qualified for the Games last month, representing Zone 4. Persson’s mom, Mary Marshall, was named head coach.
Persson spoke to the Albertan about the upcoming games. Plowman could not be reached for comment by press time.
Persson said it “feels great” to have qualified.
“This is my first time that I’ve ever tried out for it and qualified,” he said.
Persson has identified a couple of ways that he can improve his game in preparation for Grande Prairie.
“Consistency drills and more game-play strategy -- and probably (improving) my backhand,” he said.
