OLDS — Two local baton twirling duos placed in the top three during the 2020 Pan Pacific championships, held Jan. 17-19 in Red Deer.
Emma Petten and Zoe Boyd placed second. In addition, Cadence Witcher and Palin Lentz finished in third place.
Also, Madison Cook and Leah Stockall placed fourth.
More than 200 athletes from Canada, Japan, Australia and the U.S. attended the competition, including 60 from Alberta.
“We were all really thrilled with their performances, given the pressure they were under and for being such a young age,” Jenna Jemieff, who owns the Inspire Dance Studio and Baton Club, wrote in an email.
“Lots of our athletes had personal best routines and gained experience that will be crucial to their success at future competitions.
“The sportsmanship they showed for each other and other athletes from across the world was really special to see.”
Members of the baton club are now preparing for competitions in Calgary in March, Sylvan Lake in April and the provincial championships in Edmonton in May.
