OLDS — It was a tough end to a remarkable season for the Olds College Broncos women’s hockey team.
The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens swept them in three straight games to win the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) women’s hockey championship.
The Queens won the third and final game in the best-of-five series 1-0 in Red Deer on March 25.
Ironically, the game-winner was scored by Dylan Norrie of Olds.
Norrie, a rookie on the Queens' squad, scored that goal at 5:48 of the third period on a high shot that eluded Broncos goaltender Cienna Kinghorn.
It was a frustrating end to a season that saw the Broncos play for the ACAC championship for the first time in their history.
The season also saw Broncos head coach Chris Leeming named the ACAC’s coach of the year.
It marks the second time that Leeming has received that honour during his brief career coaching women’s hockey at Olds College.
He was also named the ACAC women's hockey coach of the year for the 2019-20 season.
Leeming began coaching the women’s hockey team at Olds College in the 2017-18 season.
