OLDS — Some familiar names were selected for top awards during the Olds College Broncos awards night, held via social media last month.
There were several repeat winners from the 2018-19 and even 2017-18 season.
Soccer's Fabian Gromenida of Formosa, Argentina and Felicia Rodney of Calgary were selected as male and female athletes of the year.
Badminton player Priyanna Ramdhani of Peter's Hall, Guayana was selected as the Broncos female rookie of the year.
Kyla Bosomworth of Carstairs was a futsal women's impact athlete of the year nominee.
Jesse Stoddart of Calgary (men's volleyball) was chosen male impact athlete of the year.
Noah Kambeitz also of Calgary (men's soccer) received the male academic athlete of the year award.
Broncos female hockey player Jesse Jack’s incredible community efforts were recognized for the second year in a row, as she maintained the five-year streak for women’s hockey players to be named the Broncos female impact athlete of the year. Jack's hometown is Byemoor, Alta., about 153 kilometres northeast of Olds.
There were ties in both academic student-athlete of the year categories with first-year soccer and badminton player Jenna Kardos of Olds as well as soccer and futsal player Katharina Oeltermann of Germany, another repeat winner, sharing the female award with identical 4.0 grade point averages (GPAs).
On the men’s side, first-year soccer and futsal player Noah Kambeitz of Calgary and first-year basketball student-athlete Anders Eklund of Rocky Mountain House shared the award with identical 3.94 GPAs.
Kathleen Andres of Calgary was named the minor official of the year.
In addition, Ben Nelson of Okotoks (men's basketball) was named male rookie of the year.
Tabitha Martin of Delacour, Alta., just northeast of Calgary, was a women's volleyball impact athlete of the year nominee.
