OLDS — After about six weeks away from competition, Olds College Broncos athletic teams are ready to get back to work to start 2023.

The Broncos’ Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) competition resumes tonight, Thursday, Jan. 12 as the women’s hockey Broncos host the NAIT Ooks at the Sportsplex for a 7 p.m. puck drop.

The Broncos start the second half of the season at 2-4-2, one point behind the Lakeland College Rustlers for the final ACAC playoff spot, while NAIT came in with a perfect 6-0-0 record.

On the hardwood, the men’s and women’s basketball Broncos will play a home-and-home with the St. Mary’s University Lightning beginning Friday in Calgary and Saturday in Frank Grisdale Hall at Olds College.

Tip-off times for both evenings will be at 6 p.m. for women’s basketball, and 8 p.m. for men’s basketball.

The women’s basketball Broncos head to the second half at 5-5 and in a three-way tie for the ACAC South’s final playoff spot.

Meanwhile, the men’s basketball Broncos have stumbled to a 1-9 record to occupy the bottom of the ACAC South.

Rounding out the return schedule, the men’s and women’s volleyball Broncos begin 2023 on the road, as they head north to battle the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves in Grande Prairie on Friday before making a stop in Edmonton to battle NAIT on Saturday.

The rebuilding women’s volleyball Broncos are 0-9 to start the season, though coach Sammy Fraser‘s side has made strides forward.

On the men’s side, a four-match winning streak has the Broncos above .500 at 5-4 and firmly in the mix for a playoff spot in the ACAC south.
