OLDS — Olds’ own Ronan Seeley picked up two assists during the World Junior Hockey Championships on the weekend.
Hopefully he’ll get more as the tournament progresses.
During a game against Czechia on Saturday, Seeley, a 20-year-old defenceman, got an assist on a goal by Mason McTavish of Carp, Ont., the team’s captain, and another on a powerplay goal scored by Ridley Greig of Lethbridge.
The Canadians wind up Group A action on Monday, Aug. 15 with a game against Finland in Edmonton.
Seeley is one of 25 players chosen to represent Canada.
This is actually his second World Junior Hockey Championship (WJHC) action.
Seeley participated in the 2021 World Junior Hockey Championships, which were postponed last December due to COVID-19 issues. Hence, the current WJHC action, which ends Aug. 20.
During last December’s championship tournament, Seeley picked up a pair of assists before the event was postponed. At the time, Canada had a 2-0 record.
As the Albertan reported earlier, Seeley was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes during the National Hockey League’s 2020 entry draft. He signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the team last September.
