OLDS — The local agricultural and business communities are teaming up for the annual Olds Farmers and Farmerettes bonspiel which will be held Feb. 11-15 at the Olds Curling Club.

Thirty-two teams are signed up for the men's side and 12 for the women's side.

This year is the 43rd annual men’s spiel and the 40th Farmerettes one.

Plans are afoot to mark that special milestone for the ladies, says bonspiel committee secretary Lori Gans.

“We’re going to invite all the past committee members,” she said during an interview with the Albertan prior to the event. They’re going to get a special invite to come to the banquet.”

Bonspiel committee chair Curt Jorsvick says a couple of new dealerships have come to the community and have signed on as sponsors.

He’s hopeful that in time some representatives of those dealerships will come out and curl in the event and find out how fun it is, as other sponsors have.

“It’s a good way to get out there and meet the ag community and vice-versa,” he said.

Gans agreed.

“It’s just about bringing the community together and (to) have some fun,” she said.

The banquet will once again be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 105.

“(it’s) really nice to support them, a good community group, so I feel good about backing them up,” Jorsvick said.
