Olds Golf Club members compete in provincial playdowns

Players cut in round 2 of Alberta Open Championships and Alberta Men’s Senior Championship

OLDS — Several Olds Golf Club members have competed in provincial golf championships recently with varying results.

Spencer Dorowicz played in the 2024 Alberta Open Championships at Desert Blume Golf Course Aug. 13 - 15.

He was cut Aug. 14 after the second round of play finishing with a total to par gross of +13. He scored 79 in round 1 and 78 in round 2 for a total of 157.

Meanwhile, Mark Schultz and Keith Newton participated in the Alberta Men’s Senior Championship, held July 30-Aug. 1 in High River.

Schultz ended up in 47th place, 20 over par, after shooting 79,74 and 80 for a total score of 233.

Newton was cut earlier in the competition.

He finished with a score of 167, 25 over par, after two rounds (80,87).

David Schultz of Calgary’s Country Hills Golf Club won the tournament, but not until he out-duelled Senan Foley of Calgary’s Golf Canada club in the second hole of a playoff round.

Leading up to the playoff, after three rounds, both ended up tied with scores of 214, one over par. Schultz shot 68, 68 and 78, while Foley shot rounds of 71, 68 and 75.
