Olds Golf Club survived the winter season in good shape and will see a new and improved parking lot by the end of the month, according to pro and manager Wade Bearchell.

“We’re going to be paving our parking lot; that takes about a week, but we’re going to have a new paved parking lot,” said Bearchell. “We’re excited for that.”

The holes themselves are in great shape according to Bearchell and won’t have a need for temporary greens, despite the cold snap in February.

“It’s in great shape, our greens are fantastic,” said Bearchell. “Everything worked out over winter very, very well.”

According to Bearchell that seems to be the same for most golf courses in the province.

“I haven’t heard too many horror stories, but certainly our golf courses are in great shape,” he said.

As for any other significant changes there aren’t many, but Bearchell did note the redone bunkers on holes four, 10 and 18.

Bearchell says they already have 60 events and tournaments lined up.

“We’ve got the Olds Grizzlys, Olds farmers, Rotary Club of Olds and Olds College (tournaments), plus our regular club events — men’s and ladies' opens and all that kind of stuff,” said Bearchell.

Coming up on May 11 is the member opening team scramble and despite the name, you can play as an individual if you prefer that to playing on a team.
