OLDS — The Olds Grizzlys and head coach Peter Schaefer have “mutually parted ways,” effective immediately, just a couple of months after he was hired.

The community-owned Alberta Junior Hockey League club made the announcement Friday night.

Assistant coach Brad Tobin has been promoted to head coach and was on-ice for the first session of training camp Friday afternoon.

The Grizzlys did not give a reason for the change.

Schaefer was announced as the Grizzlys new head coach May 31, just a day after announcing that former head coach Scott Atkinson had stepped down, but would contribute to the team in an advisory capacity.

The club also announced that puck drop for its annual Black and Gold intersquad game which will be played on Sunday, has been moved up to 4:30 p.m. from 5 p.m.

Admission is by a donation to the Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society in support of the emergency shelter, called Kirsten’s Place. It’s currently under construction in Olds and expected to be completed later this fall.
