OLDS — The Olds Grizzlys got their second win of the season Friday when they downed the Calgary Canucks 5-3 at the Sportsplex.
Unfortunately, the Canucks won the rubber match 4-2 in Calgary.
As a result, the Grizzlys now have two wins, eight losses and two overtime losses for six points in 12 games.
They remain fifth in the Alberta Junior Hockey League's six-team Viterra South division, just ahead of the Calgary Canucks, with whom they split a two-game series this past weekend.
Kaiden Kanderka played his 100th game as a Grizzly Friday and scored the final goal of the game to cement the team’s win.
It was 20-year-old's first goal of the season as a Grizzly.
In other news from the gold and black, it was announced that left winger Nolan Price has re-signed with the team.
The left winger from Lethbridge, born in 2003, stands 5'9" and weighs about 170 pounds.
He originally signed with the team last year and made the squad but suffered what was described as an upper body injury. It ended his season before it even began.
On its website, the club describes Price as “a strong, play-making left winger who is extremely responsible in all zones.
“He was a top five scorer in Alberta U16 AAA and we expect him to add scoring depth to our lineup for the next three seasons.”
The Grizzlys also announced that due to “uncertain times” and pandemic restrictions, they’ve bumped all camps scheduled for May to August.
As a result, the U15 camp is now scheduled to run Aug. 6-8 and the top prospects camp for those under 18 is slated to run Aug. 13-15.
“When invites were sent out and registrations were made, everybody was advised that this was possible,” the website says. “We hope this does not cause an inconvenience to all the players and their families.”
The main camp is slated to begin the weekend of Aug. 20.
