OLDS — The Olds Grizzlys wrap up a four-game road trip Tuesday with a visit to Spruce Grove to take on the Saints.
The team is going into that game on a high after getting their sixth win of the season, a 5-2 decision over the Kodiaks Dec. 1 in Camrose.
That brought the Grizzlys’ record to 6-19-2-3 for 17 points in 30 games, five points back of the Kodiaks.
During that encounter in Camrose, the Grizzlys jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period.
Connor Seeley started the scoring, his first, at the 9:15 mark of that period, assisted by Ryan Tong.
Just under 15 seconds later, Nolan Viesner scored his third goal of the season, assisted by Seeley and Devun Olfert.
Braxton Thornton got the Grizzlys’ final goal of that period unassisted at 16:28.
Camrose got on the board at 4:31 of the second period, but the Grizzlys restored their three-goal lead at 10:58 when Tait Humphries scored his first of the year, a powerplay marker, assisted by Thornton and Mitchell Patrick.
The Kodiaks made it close in the third period, scoring two goals at 7:00 and 16:08, but Thornton sealed the win with an empty-netter, his second goal of the game, unassisted.
Thomas Samborski went the distance in net, turning aside 47 of 50 shots on goal.
The Grizzlys were 1/5 on the powerplay, the Kodiaks 0/4.
The night was really special for Grizzlys affiliated player Connor White who received his first Alberta Junior Hockey League call-up to back up Samborski.
The Grizzlys gave him a shoutout on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Congratulations to ‘04 G and Grizz Ap Connor White on his first AJHL call up. Thanks for helping us out tonight,” they wrote.
