OLDS — The Olds Grizzlys junior A hockey team has hired a new assistant coach.

He’s Delta, B.C. native Brad Tobin.

Tobin is expected to arrive in Olds Aug. 1.

During the past two seasons, Tobin was head coach/GM of Creston in the Kootenay International Hockey League.

For 10 years, he was an assistant with Surrey Eagles of the B.C. Hockey League. Peter Schaefer, the Grizzlys’ new head coach, served as assistant coach, head coach and GM of that team.

A Grizzlys news release says Tobin is “looking forward to rekindling that relationship.”

"I'm a player’s coach first and foremost,” Tobin is quoted as saying.

“I'm looking forward to putting a good team on the ice for the fans and the community and can't wait to hit the ground running when I get to town."

Grizzlys training camp opens Aug. 23.

Tobin has already started helping Schaefer with recruiting and getting ready for that camp.
